STARR TREKS MONDAY MAY 25,2015 HERMISTON OREGON 235 miles
Another pretty boring day.
We got up fairly early to walk about 1 1/2 miles around the RV park and outside to the sidewalk near the Nampa Airport— not a busy venue at all. We took our time eating breakfast and getting cleaned up. I called an RV park on the Passports America campground list in Hermiston Oregon— it got good reviews, and we got a reservation. We hit the road a little after 10 AM — we gained an hour going from Idaho into Oregon. Larry was stewing about the brake gizmo that he puts in the car— he was worried that it would drain the battery again, so he put the ignition key in a different position. After we drove awhile, an alarm went off, so we had to pull over and he readjusted it— made me nervous that some semi was going to take off the driver’s door of my CRV. He had also noticed that normally, towed miles don’t show up on the odometer, but yesterday it did. Anyhow, he seemed to jiggle enough things around so the alarm quit and it seemed to work. The weather was in the 50’s and partly cloudy, but got warmer (!) as we traveled north. We stopped for gas and ate lunch at a Flying J truck stop.
We got to the Pioneer RV park around 3pm (we forgot to change our clocks, so it was closer to 2 pm!) — good thing I called for a reservation since the sign in front said No Vacancy. It really is a lovely park— all asphalt pads with nice manicured grass between each site. No pool or other amenities, but for $18.50, it has all we need. I looked at Trip Advisor to see if there were any attractions in Hermiston, but there were none listed except for a few restaurants! Pendleton is about 30 miles back and we did not feel like driving there. So I decided to just relax and do some laundry — I love having our washer and dryer in the RV for sure. We walked thru the RV park for some exercise— Larry noticed that 5th wheels really outnumber motor homes — some of them looked like permanent residents.
So while doing laundry, we had a glass of wine under the awning on our nice grass. It is pretty warm here— about 80 degrees now we are actually running the air conditioner! I was about to make supper at 5:30, then we realized we didn’t change our watches or clocks, so decided to wait awhile and get acclimated to this time zone! We waited till 5:45 Pacific time, and grilled a steak to celebrate Memorial Day. Tomorrow, we will get to our destination for a week— Issaquah WA— near Seattle. It is 235 miles to there.
Pioneer RV park-- very nice!
just relaxing with a glass of wine!
trying to plow thru James Michener's Alaska -- I read it in my 20's-- it is very long!
